Just One Bite...

My goals for this project was to create a linograph that made you stop and contemplate the meaning behind it and its story. I think I accomplished this because when I look at my art work it almost has a eerie, sinister vibe. I had moments of light where the light shinned on the apple, and a moment of dramatic shadow when the shadow cast by the stem created a cool pattern. The most difficult challenge I faced was the registration of lining up my art without being off. I met the challenge by practicing and learning how to get the perfect registration. My painting really works on the finger tips. I learned that with enough practice I can accomplish my goal, and not to be too judgmental of my artwork and just go with the flow. If I had a do over I would try different colors with my apple rather than just red. I feel best about the amount of time and effort I put into this project to accomplish my goal and I love the apple! I can almost imagine the Evil Queen handing Snow White the apple and whispering, "Just one bite... and all your dreams will come true."

The Ying to my Yang

Over the past week our assignment was to paint the shadows of light and dark for a self portrait. My goals for the assignment was to make my art come to life and to have my look rather than look exactly like me. I don't feel like I fully accomplished my goals. I really wanted my art to have a more realistic quality but I feel like my artwork lacked that. But I did accomplish have my artwork having my look rather than looking exactly like me. My painting was about the contrast between light and dark. The Ying and Yang. I believe that everyone has a bright side and a bit of a dark side. I used the contrast of the black charcoal and the white chalk to give this look to my work. The most difficult challenge for me was placement as well as realism. I constantly had to redo where I had placed my lips because my measurements were wrong. I also wanted to get more details in my look and make it seem more real than flat. I met these challenges because I eventually got the placement of the lips right. Although I didn't really solve the problem of realism I do believe my art has my look. My painting really works in the eye. I really like how it turned out and felt that was the most realistic part of my artwork. I learned from this experience that I can use different techniques to get good measure and placement for my art. I also learned that not everything has to be real, that sometimes abstract is okay! Heather was another artist in class that helped me figure out how to get the placement of my art down and she kept me from ripping my paper in half! The thing I fell best about is my ying and yang. I feel like the contrast between the light and the dark is mysterious and very abstract!

Pumpkins of the Shadows

My goals for this artwork was to make it look as real as possible and to have my pumpkins emerge from the shadows. I accomplished this by darkening the paper and erasing away the light and adding chalk for a brighter white. My artwork was about shadows and bringing forth an object out of the darkness. The most difficult part of this work was making the stems look real and bring them dimension rather than flatness. I met that challenge by focusing on making it more alive. My artworks works the best with the small skull in the front and the curves the stems formed on the pumpkins. It draws your eye right to my artwork. In my next painting I can use the shadows and certain moments of light bring my painting to life. Janet Fish was a good mentor with her work by giving me ideas on how to make things have definition. Edward Hopper was another artists who helped give me ideas on how to emerge things from shadows and give bold figures in my work. If I had a do-over I would probably add another stem to my drawing so I can make the my work stand out even more. I feel best about the skull emerging from the shadows. I thought I was able to draw people into my work and focus on the details and lights and shadows that were created. I believe this was the cherry on top of my artwork!

Where I Spend Most of My Time

When given this assignment we were told to post a picture of where we spend most of our time. I was gonna say school because I do spend 5 days of the week there, but then I thought, what about my bedroom? I spend a TON of time there! I watch Netflix in my room at least once a day, I do my homework in my room, and I sleep for about 7 hours in my room every night! Plus I love to sit in my room on rainy days and watch movies with my sister! My bedroom is my favorite room in my house and I really do spend the most of my time there!

My Obsessions

Every person has some sort of obsession and I have A LOT! I love my social media from Instagram to tumblr! I love watching Disney movies (**Note** I'm turning 16 in three days and I still love Disney movies particularly Tangled, but I believe you're never too old for Disney!)  , reading books with kick-butt characters and some romance on the side. Netflix takes up about 80% percent of my free time as well as hanging out with friends and some salted caramel mocha lattes at Starbucks. To say the least, I have a pretty large amount of obsessions! I don't think there's anything wrong with obsessions as long as they don't consume you entirely. Like even though I really want to watch The Vampire Diaries on Netflix, I make the better choice of spending time with my family or actually going outside and seeing more than just a computer screen.

2 Page Artist Spread

I'm a little late on posting this to my blog because me being the indecisive person I am changed my artists more than once! Eventually I came across Janet Fish! Her art originally captured my attention when I started the project! Janet Fish has a way of bringing her paintings to life. She loves doing painting with glass, or anything that reflects light in a crazy way! One of her paintings was a fish bowl with light reflecting through the bowl in crazy colors! She really inspired me to enhance my realist artwork. I'm hoping one day I will be able to make my drawings/paintings so real you could pick the art right off the page. I believe that even the most simple things can be brought to life and made into an amazing perspective just like Janet Fish does. I hope that one day I can be just as great an artist as she is!
